GPars 0.12-beta-1 release

Hello everyone,

to keep you informed about our progress, GPars is now on a final approach towards the 0.12 release. Russel has just cleared off the last remaining blocker and we should be good to land 0.12 GA within the next couple of weeks. There are still a few cool improvements (mostly AST transformations) waiting in the queue, but they'll probably need to be re-scheduled for later, unless anyone volunteers.

I'd like to highlight the shinest new pieces:

* Composable asynchronous functions
* Using the Java7 (jsr-166y) Fork/Join machinery under the hood
* Multiverse-based Stm API
* Active Objects

To clearly mark our current possition 0.12-beta-1 has been released. Please give it a good test ride so as we can tighten the screws if something is loose.

Regards,

Vaclav

This sounds already like a very promising release! Nice!

Out of curiosity, you were mentionning "few cool improvements" in the form of AST transformations, what are these?

I saw that. I figure gpars-0.12-beta-1-SNAPSHOT.jar and gpars-0.12-beta-1.jar
aren't the same thing? or Am I over thinking this? :)

Re: GPars 0.12-beta-1 release

SNAPSHOT artifacts have a different repository root. What you want is here:

http://repository.codehaus.org/org/codehaus/gpars/gpars/0.12-beta-1/

Cheers, Paul.

Which reminds me, we should make it part of the release process that any
snapshots for a given release in the snapshots repository are removed
when a release goes into the main repository.  There should never be
0.12-beta-1 in the main repository and 0.12-beta-1-SNAPSHOT in the
snapshots repository.

I have to admit I am not a great fan of putting things like 0.12-beta-1
out as a formal release.  With a "beta" in the name, it makes it sound
like something substandard, not a formal release at all.  Releases
should have numbers like  0.12.0.
